Fees & Requirements (2026)
For the vast majority of tourists, entering Syria by land is the most practical and straightforward method. Most nationalities can obtain a visa directly on arrival at the border, provided they do not hold an Israeli passport or stamps. Always carry your visa fee in pristine, unblemished US Dollars.
Lebanon remains the most stable and popular gateway into Syria. Shared taxis (service) and private drivers regularly make these routes from Beirut or Tripoli.
Jaber / Nasib: This is the main crossing between Amman and Damascus. It is fully operational and regularly used by tourists. The drive from Amman to the border takes about 1.5 hours, and from the border to Damascus is another 1.5 hours. Visa on arrival is processed smoothly here for eligible nationalities.
While relations with Turkey are normalizing and commercial traffic is resuming, these crossings may still face unpredictable protocols for standard international tourist entry. Until the new tourist visa procedures at the Turkish border are fully standardized, entering via Lebanon or Jordan remains the most reliable route.
While border crossings like Al-Qaim/Abu Kamal exist, they are primarily used for commercial transport and logistics. Due to ongoing security transitions and shifting regional protocols following the change in government, this route is highly complex and not recommended for standard international tourists. Visa processing for Western and many Asian passports can be denied at these specific outposts without specialized advance coordination.
